Dan Coelho, age 83, of Turlock, California, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. He was born in Stevinson, California, and was a devoted parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar. Dan was a member of Y.M.I. #44, Cabrillo Club Hilmar #30, and the Knights of Columbus, where he made lasting connections within his community.
Dan’s love story with his wife, Shirley, began in a serendipitous way. They met at a dance in Newman when Shirley needed a ride home. What started as a simple favor soon blossomed into a lifelong partnership, as they built a beautiful and loving life together. Dan and Shirley raised two wonderful daughters, Danette and Jennifer, and together they established a successful family business, DANCO Trailers Inc. Dan’s sharp mind and hardworking spirit led him to start and grow the business at a young age, creating a lasting legacy that continues through his family. He was a true pioneer in the ag industry.
Dan was known for his assertiveness, but those who knew him best recognized the tender heart that lay beneath his tough exterior. He was a proud father and grandfather, often bragging about his daughters and encouraging them to pursue their dreams. His love for his grandchildren was evident in the way he cherished simple moments, like taking them to Disneyland, letting them comb and braid his hair, or watching their various sporting events. He loved to brag about each one of them, complete with photos and videos. Dan’s love for family was unconditional, and his generous nature made him a constant source of support for those around him.
With a quiet wit and a fondness for telling jokes, Dan could always be counted on for a good laugh. He was known for being an avid truck puller and a truck & tractor pull promotor for many years where he made many lifelong friendships. His deep passion for pulling found him traveling all over the United States to compete in these events over several decades. Dan and Shirley shared a love for adventure, often embarking on travels, whether for truck & tractor pulls, cruises, or in pursuit of the best casino around.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley Coelho; his daughters, Danette Fernandes (Gary) and Jennifer King (Chuck); his sister, Laura Machado; and his cherished grandchildren, Courtney Fernandes, Kelsey Fernandes, Bailey Fernandes, Carson King, and Camden King. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Aurora Coelho, and his brother, Joe L. Coelho.
